| i don't know what i was thinking with this film. 14 actors, 8 locations, a fight and a lotta pies. today, our stunt coordinator choreographed this beautiful fight between the male and female leads. He was, however, stepping into that gray territory between directing the physical action and directing the actors. yesterday, we had the opposite problem. one of the grips started bossing around my friend who was helping out and is one of my best friends. i hate drawing lines but lines have to be drawn.

| this week has been crazy. once again, the usual suspects are making a stab for aaas in nyc! i turned ours in twice with an auspicious title. well, it isn't really that auspicious. wish us luck anyways.
halloween party last week was fun! it was great running into my former student *cough* (at least i wasn't wearing my bunny costume) and going to weho again (five years in a row!) on tuesday. aside from the border patrol chasing the mexican, the costumes were more fabulous last year (except for queen f - you sexy construction worker, sexy nurse :)
physically and emotionally exhausting shooting this last film the past two weeks. but i couldn't have done it without help (thanks f and a and b!) an amazing poet and activist was kind enough to let me adapt her poem about her father who passed away last year. i didn't expect that the grief from the loss would permeate my entire body. every time i go to the editing lab, i sit there bawling. i've been shooting different scenes with the actress and another wonderful actor, who started acting when he got laid off from his job, in his forties. turns out, he's been solicited a lot because he says there are few asian american men in his age range who can actually act. he keeps seeing the same faces at auditions. the whole project has been a blessing in disguise. i bought a plane ticket for my dad to come home from taiwan. we haven't seen him in 2 years and he has two new nephews to meet!

| i heard ralph nadar speak today. it was an exhilirating experience. he is so smart and articulate about a broad range of issues, particularly re: the state of our world and the mechanisms at work that have effectively paralyzed the masses from actively seeking social change. he told us a story about how he loved to hide in the library at princeton because he hated going outside and hid from being on campus as much as possible. one day, he noticed several birds that lay dead on the sidewalk. he figured out that their deaths were caused by the pesticides sprayed on the trees to kill bugs. such sprays would also cause students to cough and cover their faces. he pointed it out to the head of pesticides, who asked him what year he was. he said he was a sophomore. the man smirked and said princeton had the finest chemists and scientists in the world, and they would've noticed and informed him if there had been a problem. i can totally relate to feeling like you're talking to a wall...
he asked us who determines are standards of beauty? corporations. they want us to feel insecure so we'll buy more products. we are supposed to fit this ideal of beauty that is met by 1% of the world's population. however, beauty is not supposed to hurt. the mainstream idea of beauty depends on body shape and is skin deep. it doesn't account for inner beauty. it was a powerful feeling to hear him say that. i couldn't put my finger on exactly why - maybe it was the feeling of hearing this man whom i respect so much expressing his respect for the inner beauty of women, which is rare, I find, in L.A. Though I hope you have had different experiences than me.
had a horrible meeting today, truly atrocious. and i believe, unethical. reminded me of mccarthyism and how people must have felt to be blacklisted.

| how long does it take kirsten dunst to get laid? an hour and a half. to bear a son? two hours. i'm totally wigged out. the higher the hair, the closer to god. except when the head rolls off the wooden platform, bounce bounce bounce
